The short answer
Write a useful title first, insert an optional character, and check the actual preview. Keep rent, features and contact instructions understandable without decorative symbols.

Start with words that describe the actual home
Give the reader the home type, useful verified feature and relevant location or cost information. For example, Two-bedroom apartment with in-unit laundry is more informative than a row of stars. Keep the details consistent with the actual unit and approved offer, and review applicable advertising rules.
A symbol is optional decoration. It cannot replace required information, imply a feature that is unavailable or guarantee more inquiries. Choose a title that still makes sense if the character fails to display.
Distinguish a character from its code
Stars, many pictograms and emoji are Unicode characters. They are not all part of the older ASCII character set. A notation such as U+2605 identifies a character; typing that notation into an ordinary title field may simply publish the notation.
These optional characters can be selected and copied from this sentence: star ★, bullet •, telephone ☎, envelope ✉. Use a telephone or envelope only alongside clear, accurate contact instructions. Rendering and screen-reader names can vary across devices, so do not rely on a symbol alone to communicate meaning.
Insert and preview in four steps
- Write the plain-language title and choose whether a character adds anything useful.
- Select and copy the actual character, or insert it using your device's character or emoji picker.
- Place the cursor in the title field of your draft or editable posting and paste once. Check the title and body separately.
- Review the unpublished preview on a phone as well as a larger screen. Remove broken characters or visual clutter, verify the listing details, and use Craigslist's current publication instructions when ready.
On Windows, Windows key plus period opens the emoji and symbol panel. On a Mac, the Character Viewer is available through Edit, then Emoji & Symbols in supporting apps. On a phone, use the keyboard's emoji picker where available. Menu names and supported characters can vary; the device guidance below provides current instructions.
Keep HTML and text-field behavior separate
Craigslist supports a limited set of HTML in posting content, with some elements restricted to particular categories. Check its current supported-HTML page rather than pasting an entire website layout into a rental ad. Do not assume an HTML entity or formatting tag in the title will become a decorative character.
Use the platform's image-upload workflow for actual property photos. Keep original evidence and avoid misleading edits. For an existing ad, use its edit controls to change the title or other fields, then verify the public version after the change.
Check readability rather than counting decoration
Read the title aloud and confirm the necessary meaning remains in words. Limit repetition, excessive capitals and punctuation. If a symbol crowds out an important feature or makes the listing difficult to understand, remove it.
Keep one dated master description and review each publication destination after an update. Rentari can help organize a listing workflow; confirm the actual destination and publication step rather than assuming automatic posting to Craigslist. Track useful inquiries and correct stale details without promising a symbol will improve rental results.
