Use this worksheet to compare repair options on the same basis. It supports an operational decision; it does not determine financing suitability or tax treatment.

Describe the same scope; Compare all known costs; Record the decision
Describe the same scope → Compare all known costs → Record the decision

Define the required result

Describe the defect, affected item, diagnosis, urgency, and minimum work needed. Identify safety, code, or specialist requirements that constrain the options.

Do not compare a cosmetic patch with a complete restoration as though they provide the same result.

Collect comparable quotes

For each option, record scope, exclusions, materials, labor, disposal, permits, schedule, warranty, payment terms, and quote expiration. Mark unknown amounts rather than silently treating them as zero.

Include likely resident disruption and any necessary follow-up assessment. Ask the vendor to clarify assumptions in writing.

Review the choice

State the selected option, why it meets the need, unresolved risks, approval owner, and next review date. If financing is involved, obtain the actual total repayment terms separately.

After work, compare the invoice and outcome with the original scope. Document change orders and retain completion evidence.

Use the record at the next failure or replacement decision. A useful comparison becomes part of the asset history instead of disappearing after payment.

Keep your completed record

Save the worksheet with the supporting records and restrict access to people who need it. This blank organizer does not calculate a legal, tax, insurance, or eligibility decision.
