Reconcile a loan balance and payment breakdown

Compare the dated loan balance, posted components and lender statement before correcting a record.

Compare dated balances

Open the loan and check its balance-as-of date and posted activity. Compare like dates rather than today’s lender balance with an older report.

Review the payment components

Check the total and principal, interest, escrow and extra principal components against the statement. Review an interest-only or principal-only payment according to its actual breakdown.

Correct deliberately

Use the offered reversal and corrected-record workflow for a posted payment. Read its confirmation and inspect the prior balance before entering the correction. A bookkeeping reversal does not undo a bank transfer.

Check the result

  • The balance difference is traced to a date or component and the corrected record can be reviewed.

FAQs

Why are principal and escrow not shown as rent income or ordinary operating expense?

They represent different accounting movements from income or interest expense. Review the transaction types, loan activity and report explanations before changing a category to force a report total.

Does changing a loan’s suggested payment update past transactions?

No. Review posted activity separately. Use the current lender statement for each actual payment and ask your accountant about refinance or unusual-fee treatment.
