Review your books before tax preparation

Identify bookkeeping questions and collect the reports needed for review.

Before you start

  • Choose the tax year and gather statements, receipts, loan records and asset schedules.

Open Tax review

Go to Reports > Tax review. Use the full portfolio and selected year supported by this report.

Investigate review items

Read each item and inspect its source records. Complete categories and documentation when appropriate. A flag is a question to investigate, not an instruction to invent an expense.

Compare supporting reports

Review profit and loss, Schedule E, mileage and fixed assets for the same year and scope. Reconcile significant differences.

Prepare downloads

Download the relevant report or tax packet when offered. Open the files to verify coverage before sharing.

Check the result

  • Outstanding questions are identified and the exported files have the intended coverage.

FAQs

Can Tax review show just one rental?

The current view uses the full portfolio and year. Use a property-scoped report or tax packet for an individual rental.

Does a clean review guarantee correct taxes?

No. It reports what that view can detect. Check source records and obtain professional review; no return is filed by this action.
