Enter opening balances and review a journal
Bring established balances into your books through a balanced, reviewed journal.
On this page
Prepare dated balances and the debit and credit accounts from your prior books. Resolve any imbalance with your bookkeeper.
Start the journal
Open Transactions > Opening balances & journals. Select Entry type and Entry date, then the book, property and unit when applicable.
Enter balanced lines
Describe the source and add each account line with its debit or credit. Debits must equal credits. Add a missing chart account before continuing.
Review the saved entry
Choose Submit for review and inspect Saved journal review. Compare the accounts, date, amounts and description with the source records.
Approve posting
Choose Approve & post journal only after the saved review is correct. Check its final status. Pending review does not mean posted.
Check the result
- The reviewed journal is posted with balanced lines and the intended date.
FAQs
Can I enter tenant deposits or prepaid rent here?
Use the dedicated lease and deposit workflows for tenant funds. The general journal protects those balances from unsupported adjustments.
Should I resubmit after a timeout?
Reload and inspect the saved journal first. Keep its reference and contact support if the outcome remains unclear, rather than creating a duplicate.
