Create and manage transaction matching rules
Automatically categorize imported transactions by description, account and optional amount.
On this page
Choose a real recurring transaction and its intended category and rental. Use your own portfolio with accounting access; demo mode is read only.
Choose what to match
Open Accounting > Rules > Create rule. Select an Account or Any account and enter a stable part of the bank description. Avoid dates and confirmation numbers.
Choose the booking details
To match a specific amount, enable the amount-equals option and enter the amount. Choose Book as, then the category and property when applicable. Revenue and Transfer from match money in; expenses and Transfer to match money out.
Review before creating
The basic Create rule form immediately books eligible matching unbooked transactions and applies to future imports. Check every field before saving, then read the matched, booked and skipped counts.
Edit or pause a rule
Open its action menu for Edit criteria, Pause, Resume or Delete. In the editor choose automatic booking or Suggest for review, preview matches and save. Split rules also offer Match for preview only.
Start from a booked transaction
When booking revenue or an expense in Import feed, select Create rule after booking. Review the resulting draft; it is not active until you save the rule.
Check the result
- The rule is listed with its criteria and match count. Check the resulting booked entries separately.
FAQs
Why did a rule not book a transaction?
Check its active status, account, description, amount and money direction. Already booked rows, protected records and tenant trust accounts are excluded. An earlier matching rule can take priority. Review the preview and row-specific message.
Why is my Rules list empty?
Clear the filters first. Starter rules are created only outside demo mode when the portfolio has a bank-feed account and no saved rules. You can create a rule for a real recurring transaction.
Does deleting a rule undo its bookings?
No. Pausing or deleting changes future matching. Review previously booked entries separately.
