Create a charge for a lease

Enter the charge details

Choose a Category, enter the Amount, and use Add description if the tenant needs more detail.

Set the frequency

Choose One-time with a Due date, or Monthly with a Due day of month and Starting month when offered.

Review the schedule

For monthly charges, review the ending month or Create charges until lease ends and any rent late-fee settings.

Create and check the result

Review the payout information, select Create, and check the result on the lease payment page.

When a tenant cannot see an expected charge

Confirm the lease, unit, tenant, due date and saved charge in the landlord’s Payments view. An unsaved draft or a charge assigned to another record will not establish the expected balance.

Ask the tenant to use the account invited to that lease and refresh Payments. Review online payment access if the charge exists but cannot be paid. For an unresolved mismatch, contact support with the charge reference and the two displayed states before creating a duplicate.

Check the result

  • A successful Create returns to the lease payment record with the new charge or supported recurring setup.
  • The new charge represents an amount owed. It does not collect money or confirm a rent payment.

FAQs

Why can I not create a monthly charge in this category?

The form supports recurring schedules only for certain categories. Security deposits, late fees and NSF fees use one-time charges. Use the enabled frequency and date controls for the selected category.

Why does the form require a tenant or another lease profile?

The charge must be associated with a valid lease and tenant. Check that you selected the intended rental and add the missing association through the lease flow before creating the charge.

Should I add another charge because the tenant cannot see the first one?

First inspect the saved charge and tenant assignment. A duplicate can double the amount owed without resolving the account or access issue.
