Why was I charged a returned-payment fee?
Review a bank-return reason, distinguish the fee from rent, and follow the next step for the payment.

Before you start
- Locate the returned payment in Money and have its date, amount and reference available.
- Review the actual reason and fee shown for your account; do not substitute a fee amount or return timeline from another service.
Read the return notice
Open Money and find the charge with Returned by your bank. Read the reason and any code shown.
Review the balance items
Check the rent balance and any separate returned-payment fee. Use Question this charge if an item needs an explanation.
Resolve the payment-method problem
Follow the displayed next step, or choose another eligible payment method if the original account cannot be used.
Check before paying again
Review Processing and Payment history before starting another payment. If payment is still due and no duplicate is underway, review the amount and fee before confirming.
Check the result
- You can identify the returned payment and any separate charge that needs explanation.
- A replacement payment is tracked separately from the original return, and its status remains visible in Money.
FAQs
Is a declined card the same as a returned bank payment?
No. The current return handling distinguishes bank returns from card declines. Read the actual payment notice and balance items rather than assuming every failed attempt creates a returned-bank-payment fee.
I do not recognize the return reason or fee. Who can explain it?
Ask your bank about the return reason and use Question this charge or contact your manager about the account record. Include the payment date, amount and displayed code. A missing or disputed explanation should be reviewed before another payment attempt.
