Customize a lease agreement
Edit the draft's rental terms, additional provisions and available addenda before preparing signatures.

Before you start
- Have the rental address, unit, tenant details and intended terms ready. Open the correct lease profile before preparing its agreement.
Open the draft
Choose the lease in the agreement builder and confirm its rental, tenants and current draft status.
Save the rental terms
Complete each of the six builder sections. Set the applicable dates, amounts, people, pet rules, utilities and responsibilities, then save each section before leaving.
Add provisions and addenda
In Provisions & Attachments, review the location questions and available Optional addenda. Enter your wording under Additional provisions. Each paragraph becomes a numbered clause. Save & finish and read the resulting preview.
Review before signature preparation
Use Preview lease and Review & generate to inspect the terms. After generation, use the Advanced Editor when available and recheck the document. Follow any editing restrictions shown for a request already sent or an agreement already signed.
Check the result
- Review the saved draft or document package and its actual signing status before taking the next step.
FAQs
Will my wording override the law?
No. Review your provisions for consistency with applicable law and the rest of the agreement. Ask a local lawyer to review unusual terms.
Can I change an agreement that is already signed?
Prepare an addendum for the intended change and review its signing requirements. Editing a new draft does not change a previously signed document.
Does choosing an addendum upload my own file?
No. Available addenda and uploaded supporting files are separate. Use the lease Summary attachment workflow for your own files and review the final package.
