Set up units and rooms under a property

Keep each rentable unit or room attached to its property and use the right rental in leases and listings.

Have the full property address and a distinct label for each rental. Review existing occupied units before adding rooms.

Choose the property type

Open Properties > Add property and choose the property type. Enter the full address and answer the room-rental question when offered.

Add property screen with rental property type choices.
Start with the type that matches your rental.

Add units or rooms

Follow the setup fields for units and room rentals. Keep the room associated with the correct unit and use names that distinguish it from the whole rental.

Blank property address form with street, unit, city, state, ZIP and optional property details.
The manual address form before a property is saved.

Check the rental identity

Open the saved property and inspect each unit or room before listing it or creating a lease. Keep existing occupied rentals attached to their original lease records.

Check the result

  • The property has clearly labeled rentals that can be selected without confusing a room and its parent unit.

FAQs

Should I add a duplicate property for every apartment?

Use units under the existing building when that represents the real rental structure. Check for an existing property before adding another address.

Does adding rooms move an existing lease?

No. Review existing leases and occupied units separately. Do not delete and recreate a rental just to change its displayed room label.
