Review rent charges and payment activity

Use Payments to review balances, follow payment status, and record outside payments.

Have the lease, tenant and rent period ready so you can distinguish the correct charge from another month.

For online collection, review Settings > Rent payments and complete any verification requested for the collecting account.

Start with Payments

Open Payments and choose This month, Month-to-date, or Year-to-date on the Overview.

Save collection preferences and check readiness

For a new lease, choose Actions, then Set up rent collection. On How will you collect rent?, select Payments through Rentari when available, Methods outside of Rentari, or both, then Save preferences. Review Collection preferences and the readiness message on Payment setup details.

Review autopay as a landlord

The tenant authorizes autopay from their own payment account. Direct them to the tenant autopay guide so they can review the method, amount, schedule and consent shown before enabling it.

Review actual charge and payment statuses when reconciling rent. An enabled authorization does not guarantee settlement. If online payment access is disabled, future autopay stops; after access is restored the tenant must enroll again. Marketing payment preferences do not change an existing authorization.

Check the result

  • The selected charge shows its remaining balance and current payment or deposit status.
  • An outside payment appears as a recorded payment only after you submit its details; opening the recording form does not change the balance.
  • Payment setup details shows the saved collection choices and current readiness. A saved preference alone does not establish that online collection is ready or that a payment was made.

FAQs

Why does Paid differ from Deposited?

The page separates charge payment activity from the deposit to your account. Expand the charge and review its tracker or Payment details. Use the displayed status to follow that payment; do not treat an in-transit amount as a completed deposit.

A renter paid by cash or transfer. Why is rent still due?

An outside payment needs to be recorded against the correct charge. First confirm receipt and check for an existing record, then use Record offline payment with the actual amount and date. A reminder alone does not establish that the renter owes a second payment.

I saved collection preferences. Why is online collection still unavailable?

Read the current readiness message and offered next step. Payment-account setup, identity verification, account review or account eligibility can still need attention. A saved outside-payment preference does not enable online collection or change the renter's autopay. Recording an outside payment remains a separate step after you receive it.

Can a landlord turn on autopay for a tenant?

The tenant must complete their own authorization. Ask them to review Autopay in their account, and use the recorded payment result rather than assuming enrollment means rent has settled.
